Modern Politics

Here is your weekly dose of politics.

Fifty Octobers ago, in 1961, Barack Obama was an infant in Hawaii, just over two months old. Mitt Romney was a student at the Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Rick Perry was 11 years old. And Sarah Palin had not yet been born. Though they could not know it, the world in which they — and we — are now operating began to take shape that October...

Yuck

Just a little story I found today about McDonald's famous McRib. I should probably disclose that I have not had the glorious opportunity of actually trying one of these delightful sandwiches, but from a close source (old roommate) I have heard they are ok, but not worth the stomach pains they ultimately lead to.

There are many people who I am sure would never, ever want to try an item like this, but possibly none more than an Uncle of mine, who I am sure has not and will not ever this thing; now if McDonald's came out with a Grilled Cheese, he would be all over that!

Herman Cain

I saw this ad two days ago, and from the moment I saw it, I have just been speechless. I am not sure what the point of this ad is, but if the purpose of it was to get attention, it worked.

I don't know what part of this ad is more ridiculous. The beginning speech, the lighting of the cigarette, the creepy smile that Cain gives near the end, or the song that is played in the background.

I really want other people's opinions on this, because while I may be a little biased, I still think that most people would agree that this ad is just absurd. But what might be even more outrageous, is the fact that Herman Cain is still in the race for the Republican nomination.

Now granted, I am a fan of the Godfather's Pizza, particularly the one on North Tamiami Trail in Nokomis, Florida, but, I just can't imagine a world will Herman Cain is the leader of the Free World. I haven't even begun to talk about his incredible tax plan (9-9-9) that is eerily familiar to the tax plan in "The Sims" computer game.

Anyway, I want your comments and opinions. Also, I am putting up a poll question for today, so look for that as well.

Legos sure have gotten bigger

This story doesn't really have a whole lot of substance to it, but I just thought it was pretty funny. More importantly, I have actually been to the beach where this took place, as many people I know have... Siesta Key, Florida.

Again, it is a very quick story about something very odd washing up on shore.

Hank Williams - Why do you drink?

After yesterday's article, I figured I would post something a little more on the lighter side. I came across this story written by Richard Roeper discussing the spotlight that good ole' Hank Williams Jr. has received since his senseless comments he made on "Fox & Friends."

This is a short story written by an entertainment writer (hence, it is easy to read). Here is a short piece of the beginning. If you want to continue reading, click the link below.

"Imagine a production meeting in the offices of “The View” about three weeks ago, with some young booker excitedly sharing this breaking news:

“This is so exciting! I think we can get Hank Williams Jr.!”

What would Whoopi have said? How underwhelmed do you think Barbara would have been?"

An organization doing the RIGHT thing

Alright, so this is the first story that I am posting. This horrific tragedy took place over the summer when Texas Rangers' outfielder Josh Hamilton tossed a ball in the stands. Shannon Stone, leaned over the railing to catch the ball for his son and fell the 20 feet down to the cement head first. Four hours later, he passed away.

Since that day, life has gone on, for both the Rangers organization (as they are currently playing in the World Series) and for the Stones. This is a great article that caps this sad series of events with a small ray of light.

Hope everyone enjoys this article, it is a feel good story!

Below is a short excerpt from the story.

... In August, with the blessing of the Stone family, the Rangers announced that they will build a bronze statue in Shannon's honor. The statue will depict Shannon and Cooper at a game, and stand outside Rangers Ballpark. "I just got to thinking about what we can do to memorialize Shannon," Ryan told TIME from his St. Louis hotel room a few hours before the start of Game 1 of the World Series. "We didn't want this accident to just pass. The statue, to me, represents what we strive for as an organization — families and sharing memories."

Welcome

Hello and welcome to my very simple blog. I was using my status updates to share stories that I found interesting with my friends and family, and I have decided that this might be a better forum to continue to do that.

I am going to try and post a story every day; one in which I think is interesting and that other people would also enjoy. They will vary in topic, from world news to sports to politics. They will also come in different forums, from written stories or columns to videos.

I will attempt to always have the story up by 2 p.m.

Each post will most likely come with some sort of description of what the story entails and then a short clip or blurb for you to read. That way you can decide if you even want to continue further before clicking the link.

Although I have used blogger for former blogging projects, I am still a novice, so I will try and make things as interactive and user-friendly as possible. If you find that you will use the site, please "Follow" that way I know people are actually coming, and as always, feel free to comment on the stories or let me know different things I can do.

Lastly, I would like to make it clear that I in now way own the rights to any of these stories, I am simply using this blog to pass them along. I am a strong advocate that good journalism should not go unnoticed, and that even if I only get through to a couple people each day, it will be worth it.
